Wanna learn to SCUBA Dive?
So, you're thinking about
learning to SCUBA dive and you want to know what is involved and what
you will be doing. Well, first you will have a great time experiencing
the weightlessness of being underwater and we know you will enjoy the
view! There are many options once you decide to "take the plunge".
There are regular SCUBA diver classes that are three weeks long. These
classes are the most popular. They are two nights per week for three
weeks, one Saturday to do two training dives and one weekend to do
your certifying training dives (preferably in salt water). Classes are
usually on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. The first
night is what we call the "academic session" and the second night is
the "confined water session".
There are Weekend Classes
that are highly accelerated and require academic commitment and
excellent swimming skills. This class is one weekend of class and pool
and one weekend of diving. Academics are in the morning and the pool
sessions are in the afternoon, on the first weekend. You can expect
3to 5 hours of academics and 3 to 4 hours of pool work each day of the
first weekend. The second weekend are two training dives on Saturday
and two training dives on Sunday.
There are also private
classes that are conducted to the schedule of the student. No matter
what class you choose there are academics, confined water sessions and
open water dives and Exams to pass.
During the academic
session you will learn what it takes to be a safe, knowledgeable and
competent diver, you will learn about proper equipment for scuba
diving, the effect scuba diving has on your body, how to safely plan
dives and what you will see while scuba diving. There may be a quiz to
take after each chapter depending on the organization you choose for
your certification. There is a Final Quiz no matter what organization
you choose for certification.
During the pool sessions,
or Confined Water sessions (because your in a pool), you will learn
how to assemble and use your equipment. You will also learn how to do
the following:
-
Enter and exit the water,
-
Breathe underwater from SCUBA,
-
Clear your mask underwater if it becomes flooded,
-
Manage your buoyancy,
-
Kick your fins correctly,
-
Protect the environment when underwater, and
-
How to be a good diving buddy.
Of
course this is just "skimming the surface" there are many more things
you will learn but we'll tell you the rest when you register for the
class!
However, please note that
there are time, monetary, and educational commitments to become a
safe, competent scuba diver. ARE YOU READY?
